Nuevo Leon in NumbersIt is located on the northeast area of Mexico and borders with the United States through the Colombia Bridge. It has 3.9 million inhabitants (85% live in the metropolitan area and 40% are less than 20 years old). With ess than 4% of the national population, the GDP of Nuevo Leon is more than twice as much as the national average. The main industrial activities of Nuevo Leon are: glass, corn flour, synthetic fibers, cement, appliances, beer, metal-mechanics, ceramic and iron products. Education / Employment:Workforce of 1.8 million people (4.3% of the total population) highly qualified and educated (education average degree 10 years). The average income of worked hour of the occupied population is of 33.9 pesos. The educational level of the population is 1.5 years more than the national average. Around the 60% of the state’s budget is invested in education. Almost 5000 schools teach English as second language. Nuevo Leon was one of the states that generated more formal jobs in the country in 2005. Health:Nuevo Leon has the health infrastructure of any developed country. 603 hospitals and health centers (4,839 hospital beds). GDP Structure
Nuevo Leon’s growth has a tendency very seemed to national growth. From 2000 until today, the state has presented a higher growth than the national average growth. The state generates 7.3% of the national GDP and its GDP per capita is of 27,546 pesos, obtaining the third and the second national place respectively.

Between January of 1999 and December of 2005, foreign direct investment in Nuevo Leon has been of 9,880.4 million dollars, which equals 8.4% of the FDI in this term, and 34.5% of the investment attracted by the states of the north border of the country. With it, Nuevo Leon occupied the first position among the states of the north border that received foreign investment in that period.
